~Meet Sarah~

FAB: What is your major?
SARAH: My major is marketing

FAB: Why did you join FAB & how has being a member helped you?
SARAH: I joined fab because I wanted to get more involved in the school but I also wanted to delve deeper into the fashion world and meet likeminded people who also shared that passion

FAB: How would you describe your personal style?
SARAH: I would describe my personal style as a vintage cowboy that shops at urban outfitters

FAB: What inspires you in the fashion industry?
SARAH: The biggest thing that has inspired me in the fashion industry is my personal clothing line Rebel Based Fashion. Being able to see where I can go and what I can do and all the opportunities for growth have really inspired me to push myself even further and continue following this passion.

FAB: What is your dream job in the fashion industry?
SARAH: My dream job in the fashion industry would be a marketing coordinator or marketing executive with a brand like lazy oaf or dollskill or something like that

Thanks for being a FAB member Sarah!

~ Meet Glory ~

FAB: What is your major?
GLORY: I'm majoring in Integrated Communications.
FAB: Why did you join FAB & how has being a FAB member helped you?
GLORY:  I joined FAB to meet other people who are interested in fashion and to also do some networking! My high school had a fashion club but it wasn't as active and didn't have the opportunities FAB presents. FAB has helped me get actual experience in the fashion industry while providing me with great advice on how to get my career started and succeed in it.

FAB: How would you describe your personal style?
GLORY: I feel like I'm always changing up my style, but right now I'd consider it streetwear.
FAB: What inspires you in the fashion industry & why?
GLORY: I think that what inspires me is the fact that fashion is cyclical. The idea that styles can be brought back and added on to be made better is interesting to me. In a way, it's like nothing really goes out of style. It's just in "resting".

FAB: What does fashion mean to you?
GLORY: To me, fashion is a form of communication, a way to express your identity to those around you.
FAB: What is your dream job in the fashion industry?
GLORY: My dream job would be working in fashion PR. I'd also eventually like to operate my own modeling agency.

Thank you so much Glory! FAB loves you!

~Meet Zierrah~

FAB: What is your major?
Zierrah: I am a Marketing major with a minor in Management.

FAB: Why did you join FAB & how has being a FAB member helped you?
Zierrah: I joined FAB because of my interest in fashion and the business aspect of fashion. This is my first semester at UH and I wanted to get involved right away. FAB had everything that I wanted in a student organization, such as networking opportunities and being able to attend local fashion shows. This organization has helped me meet new people that have similar interests and it opened up doors for me to pursue a career in fashion.

FAB: How would you describe your personal style?
Zierrah: My personal style is more so laid-back and casual. I love comfortable and simple clothing items, mainly clothing pieces that are cute and affordable. My closet consists of clothing that ranges in color from black to hot pink. Color doesn’t really matter to me when it comes to what I wear. I usually don't follow the current trends in fashion, I wear what is visually appealing and stylish to me.

FAB: What inspires you in the fashion industry and why?

Zierrah: The overall variety and diversity in styles, body shapes, skin tones, and creative freedom in the fashion industry inspires me tremendously. Fashion is continuously changing, trends may be here one day and gone the next. I love the room for self-expression and difference that is portrayed in the fashion industry. Also, I love how hair, makeup, and styles are constantly changing in the world of fashion.

FAB:What does fashion mean to you?
Zierrah: In my opinion, fashion is a way to creatively express and discover yourself. Fashion is the best way to introduce yourself to someone without having to say a single word. You can tell the entire world about your personality and character just by the type of clothes you wear.

FAB:What is your dream job in the fashion Industry?
Zierrah: My dream job in the fashion industry would be to work in the Product and Digital Marketing department for high-end brands and designers. I would love to coordinate events for designers and brands, such as runway shows and conventional occasions within the industry.

Thank you so much Zierrah. We love having you in FAB!!

~MEET TRISTEN~

FAB: What is your major?
TRISTEN: I am a Marketing major with a minor in Supply Chain Management.
FAB: Why did you join FAB & how has being a FAB member helped you?

TRISTEN: I joined FAB as a creative outlet! I spend so much of my time in class or at the airport working for a German airline that I tend to miss out on some of the fun Houston has to offer both in recreation & the arts. FAB was the perfect door to experience such events with wonderful people I can now call my friends!

FAB:How would you describe your personal style?
TRISTEN: My personal style is super colorful! I'm heavily inspired by drag queens & pop art, and I find a way to combine those with feminine & eye-catching elements with the 90s pieces I thrift from around Texas. I tend to dress in vintage clothing & always look for the loudest patterns/colors I can find. I like my outfits to reflect my personality & my talents as I have a niche for drawing & painting, so I never want to be perceived as anything but vibrant.

FAB: What inspires you in the fashion industry and why?

TRISTEN: Brands in the fashion industry that celebrate diversity in sexuality, body types, skin color, & etc. inspire me greatly! Being a creole black women, I live for people in the spotlight showcasing various forms of beauty, because, to me, beauty has no limits. Cultures from around the globe glorify their people's beauty all in their unique way & to see creative directors, makeup artists, designers embrace the differences that make people so incredible makes my heart fill with joy.

FAB:What does fashion mean to you?
TRISTEN: What fashion means to me is a world dedicated to celebrating the creativity & inner artists in us all. To have an entire international industry made solely to show off the original or revamped takes of couture & the many styles it encompasses, fashion is one of the world's largest art forms & dutifully receives great recognition for being as such.

FAB: What is your dream job in the fashion industry?
TRISTEN:  My dream job in the fashion industry would be if I could work with or become my own version of Pat McGrath! Though she is a queen in the makeup industry, her work coincides with the runway. If I could show the ideas in my mind of different ways the human face could be made divine, I would be one happy woman!
Thank you so much for being apart of FAB & having such a vibrant soul!

We're excited to kick off our Member of the Week today! Here's little background info about Member of the week. Over these first few months we've loved getting to interact with our lovely FAB members and because we are growing, it's getting a little difficult to personally get to know everyone on a one-on-one basis, so we created Member of the Week to not only showcase our top members but to also get to know them better through a small Q & A.

~Meet Kara~

FAB: What's your major?

KARA: Hotel and Restaurant Management and minor in Marketing.

FAB: Why did you join FAB & how has being a member helped you?

KARA: I was in search for a new organization to be involved in on campus for my last semester. So when I had found FAB, I was so excited because the members are cool and we all love fashion. It's been a great opportunity to be around more like minded people especially since the fashion presence in Houston is small. With FAB, I have been able to go to fashion shows, meet fashion professionals, and just talk to people who have a similar interest as me.

FAB: How would you describe your personal style?

KARA: When I'm shopping or if you look in my closet, I don't really follow a trend. I shop for comfortable clothes, clothes that make me look and feel good, clothes that not only are affordable, but good quality. Mostly neutral colors and a pop of color every now and then.

FAB: Who inspires you in the Fashion Industry and Why?

KARA:  I wouldn't say that there is someone who specifically inspired me in the fashion industry. I’ve just always had a love for shopping. Anyone that knows me knows that it is my favorite thing to do. To be honest, I think it’s because my mom also loves shopping for shoes, so I would always go to the store with her when I was little. However, instead of shoes, I loved clothes and so the obsession begun. Now, I follow a lot of fashion bloggers on Instagram such as @missenocha, @sarahjoholder, @notjessfashion, etc.

FAB: What does Fashion mean to you?

KARA:  Fashion is a form of art, a way to express yourself. It can reflect your personality, mood, and thoughts without even saying a word. It personally makes me feel good when I look good and it acts a stress reliever on a bad day.

FAB: What is your dream job in the fashion industry?

KARA: My dream job is to plan and coordinate events in the Fashion and Beauty industry. I have always loved fashion shows and other events that revolve around fashion and beauty. After researching, my "dream job" would fall under the Fashion Marketing aspect of the Fashion Industry.

Thank you so much Kara for being apart of our FAB community!

On Friday, September 21st our lovely members had the great opportunity to volunteer at the Alantude fall/winter 2018 fashion show. The collections consisted of beautifully constructed garments including Strato-nimbus, dark, natural draped silhouettes that gave the illusion of being rained on, The Silver lining collection featured a grey color palette with hints of blue and silver to give the effect of rain streaks and the third collection, After the Storm, which gave sunshine vibes and exuded confidence in every garment. Check out alantude.com to read more about the collections and about the designer himself, Alan Gonzalez.

Thank you so much Alantude for having us!
